The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held each year in more than 600 communities across the U.S., this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

This year, eight walks are being held around Massachusetts the next two weekends, Sept. 22 and 23 and Sept. 29 and 30.

The walks are 2 to 3 miles, so the distance is quite doable for most of us. While there is no fee to register, each participant is expected to do their own fundraising or make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. To help in this effort, the Alzheimer’s Association has created a number of easy-to-use tools on their website, along with staff support, to help participants reach their fundraising goal.

You can walk as an individual, but it’s more fun to be part of a team. You can form your own, or join a team. Tell your friends, family and coworkers why you are walking and ask them to join you—you’ll have a team in no time!

Our Bridges at Epoch team is participating in a walk on Sept. 29. We’ve also been hosting a number of fundraising events to reach our goal including a car wash and bake sale.

Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. When you participate in a walk, you are helping to raise dollars for care, support and research. You are also doing something more—raising awareness of Alzheimer’s in your community.

The eight walks in Massachusetts this year are:

9/22/12: East Walpole

9/22/12: Holyoke

9/23/12: Cambridge

9/29/12: Cheshire

9/29/12: Andover

9/29/12: Plymouth

9/30/12: Fall River

9/30/12: Worcester
